GMIT accused of ‘shooting the messenger’

Labour candidate for Castlebar Town Council Dr Bernie Courtney has received notification of her removal from the liaison committee between Mayo VEC and GMIT-Castlebar Campus; a somewhat timely occurrence following the controversy the dental surgeon sparked with her recent remarks about the future of the Castlebar campus of GMIT— in that the campus was to be downgraded — comments which were refuted in a statement issued from GMIT.

Following what Labour candidate Dr Bernie Courtney describes as “having ruffled a few feathers” at GMIT, Castlebar, leading to her being informed that she would be removed from the liaison committee of GMIT Castlebar Campus, Dr Courtney has in fact been given unanimous support from the Mayo VEC committee last Thursday night. The committee, who reserve the function to appoint and remove members, instructed that Dr Courtney would continue as its representative in GMIT and to attend the next meeting of the liaison committee which took place on Wednesday.

Information evening at the IiBC Centre, GMIT

An information evening will be being held on Thursday November 26 in the Innovation in Business Centre (IiBC) at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) Castlebar from 5pm to 8pm. People are welcome to call in at any time.
